Welcome to Alison Manning Psychology

In my work as a clinical psychologist I aim to create a sense of safety and care for my adult clients.
I aim to be open minded, engaged and accepting.
My strongest professional ethic is respect for each client's unique needs.  I want each person to feel that I have listened closely in order to understand what they need most from coming to see me.
Alongside holding a Master of Clinical Psychology I have spent years learning and practicing effective therapeutic treatments, and practising the art of effective coaching.
My therapeutic approach incorporates interventions from Schema Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy,  Transformational Chairwork, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Internal Family Systems therapy.  Treatment plans are designed collaboratively with each client, and are designed to best meet the individual's needs and goals.

My clients are self-referred,  referred by a GP. As of May 2025 I no longer accept referrals relating to WorkCover, CTP,  or  the Lifetime Care and Support scheme.
My interest in psychology evolved from my previous work as a mediator, where I had extensive experience working in  family, workplace and commercial conflict management.
Alison Manning Psychology provides therapy and coaching for people face to face in the Dubbo clinic, or online, using video or phone. Since the pandemic, telehealth is available to people anywhere in Australia who are referred by their GP, and have a Mental Health Care Plan - the rebate is the same for telehealth as for in-person consults.

As you can see from my photo, I'm not straight out of uni, and clients often tell me how appreciative and relieved they are to find someone who has perspective that can come with age and life experience.

Therapy and coaching with fiction writers

I am also the principal of Writer Psych, a boutique online clinic dedicated to fiction writers' mental health, emotional wellbeing and creative productivity.  In 2024 I launched The Writermind Project, a collaborative venture aimed at increasing the reach of targetted mental health programs and offerings for writers.
